Задание 1. Конкурс понимания письменного текста
Read the following text and mark the sentences below as TRUE (A), FALSE (B), or NOT STATED (C) according to its contents.
Who wants to be a millionaire?
Nearly all of fantasized about winning a big prize in a lottery. We dream about what we would do with the money but we rarely stop to think what the money may do to us!
For most of us, our way of life is closely linked to our economic circumstances. The different parts of our lives fit together like a jigsaw - work, home, friends, hobbies and sports make up our world. This is where we belong and where we feel at home. A sudden huge windfall would dramatically change it all and smash the jigsaw. For example, most people like the idea of not having to work, but winners have found that without work there is no purpose to their day and no reason to get up in the morning. It is temping to move to a bigger house in a wealthy area, but in so doing you leave old friends and routines behind.
Winners are usually advised not to publicize their address and phone number, but charity requests and begging letters still arrive. You might feel trapped!
There are many stories about winners who could not learn how to be rich. There was a woman who went on a spending spree, which lasted four years and five marriages. Now she is penniless, miserable and alone. As she says, winning that money was the worst thing which had ever happened with her.
For many people the easiest thing is to get rid of the money as soon as possible. One sailor blew his $ 4 million in 77 days! He withdrew money every day and handed it to his wasted fortune. The best way out seems to divide the money between members of your family. It will definitely take anyone years to get used to having all that money and family can help one to.
When you next buy lottery ticket, just stop for a minute and ask yourself why you are doing it. Do you actually want to win? Are you doing it for the excitement of thinking about winning? Are you ready for numerous lies which will appear about you in the press and for all that public attention? Do you want to be a millionaire? And can you?
1. Most people dream of winning much money in a lottery.
2. Our life does not depend on our economic circumstances.
3. You can feel safe at home only if your house is in a wealthy area.
4. Giving up work brings most winners happiness.
5. Many people ask money from lottery winners.
